What Is a Squat Wedge For?

It elevates the heels to help you squat deeper with better mobility — here's how it works.

A squat wedge is a small angled platform you put under your heels during squats. By raising the heels slightly, it lets many people sit deeper into a squat with a more upright torso — useful if limited ankle mobility makes a flat-footed deep squat hard. It's popular for both gym lifting and bodyweight mobility work.

Common uses: heel-elevated goblet or bodyweight squats to train depth and quad engagement, and ankle mobility drills. The wedge isn't a crutch so much as a tool to work in a fuller range while you build mobility. Cork wedges are favored for being firm, grippy, and a natural material rather than plastic. Start with bodyweight to get used to the angle. As with any training tool, if you have a knee or ankle issue, check with a professional. More in cork yoga & massage tools.
