Massage Ball vs. Foam Roller: When to Use Each
A massage ball targets small, specific spots; a foam roller covers larger areas. Use a ball when you want focused pressure on a tight knot or a small muscle — glutes, shoulder, the sole of the foot, or alongside the spine. Use a roller for broad muscle groups like calves, quads, hamstrings, and the upper back, where you want to cover more ground.
Think of the roller as the broad tool and the ball as the precision tool. Many people own both: roll the big areas with the roller, then dig into a stubborn specific spot with a ball. With cork versions, both are firm — so ease into the pressure and keep it tolerable. As always, these are for general mobility and comfort; sharp pain or an injury calls for a professional, not more pressure. More in cork yoga & massage tools.
