Is Hard Water Bad for Your Skin?
Hard water isn't dangerous, but it can leave skin feeling drier and filmy for many people. Hard water is high in dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium, and those minerals can react with soap to leave a residue on the skin that's harder to rinse away. That leftover film, plus the minerals themselves, is what can leave skin feeling tight, dry, or never-quite-clean after washing.
People with sensitive or already-dry skin tend to notice it most. The usual approaches: use gentler, well-rinsing cleansers, moisturize after washing, and if your area has notably hard or heavily treated water, a shower filter can reduce some of what's contributing to the problem. For ongoing skin concerns, a dermatologist is the right call. More in does a shower filter help skin.
Try a BHG shower filter for gentler water.
