How Many Pairs of Underwear Should You Own?
A common rule of thumb is enough pairs to get through your laundry cycle with a buffer — for many people that's somewhere around two to three weeks' worth, so you're never caught short between washes. If you do laundry weekly, that means having more than seven pairs so you've got margin; if you wash less often, you'll want more.
There's no official number — it depends on how often you wash and whether you want extras for travel or the gym. The practical benefit of owning a few more than you strictly need: each pair gets worn less often and rests between wears, which helps them last longer. When some wear out, replace them with breathable, well-made basics. Quality over a giant pile of thin pairs is the better approach. More in how often to replace underwear.
