No — well-made mushroom coffee doesn't taste like mushrooms. It's regular coffee blended with extracts of functional mushrooms (like lion's mane, chaga, or reishi), and the mushrooms are used as dried extracts rather than whole fungi. The result tastes like coffee, sometimes described as a touch smoother or earthier than a straight black cup, but not like a forest floor.

If you've been put off by the name, that's understandable — but the flavor is the coffee, not the mushrooms. Quality matters here: a good blend starts from a decent coffee base and uses real named mushroom extracts, so it tastes clean. A cheap one can taste off, but that's a quality issue, not an inherent mushroom-coffee problem. More in mushroom coffee explained.
