Do Shower Filters Reduce Water Pressure?
Most quality shower filters are built to maintain good water pressure, but a clogged or old cartridge can reduce flow over time. A fresh filter adds only a small amount of resistance, so you typically won't notice a meaningful drop in pressure with a well-designed unit. When people do experience weak flow, it's usually a cartridge that's overdue for replacement and has filled with trapped sediment.
So the practical answer: a new filter shouldn't noticeably hurt pressure, and if flow drops later, that's your cue to swap the cartridge rather than a flaw in the concept. Choosing a filter designed for good flow, and replacing the media on schedule, keeps pressure where you want it. If you already have low household water pressure to begin with, a filter won't fix that underlying issue. More in our shower filter guide.
