Should You Brush Your Teeth Before or After Breakfast?
You should brush before breakfast, after, or both — but if you only do it once in the morning, there's a good case for brushing before you eat. Overnight, bacteria build up in your mouth, and brushing first thing clears that out before you add food on top. It also avoids brushing acidic breakfast foods (like citrus or coffee) directly into softened enamel.
If you prefer to brush after breakfast so your mouth feels fresh heading out the door, that's fine too — just wait around 30 minutes after acidic foods or drinks before brushing, to give enamel time to recover. The bigger picture: brushing consistently twice a day matters far more than the exact timing around breakfast. For a clean routine, see our fluoride-free oral care guide.
